The Mukuvisi River robber and rapist has been jailed

The man who waylaid a woman and raped a woman around the Muvisi River area has been jailed.

Taurai Muparura (30) was arraigned before the Harare Magistrates Court facing rape and robbery charges.

It was the state’s case that on the 12th of March 2023, the accused committed the crime against a 31 year old woman who was walking along a bushy foot path which passes through Mukuvisi river as she was coming from the CBD on her way to St Martins in Harare.

The court heard that the complainant met the accused person along the bushy foot path as he was walking in the opposite direction and he tripped her to the ground.

He then proceeded to drag her into a maize field and forcibly undressed and raped her.

Muparura also searched her handbag, stole a Techno Pop 5 cellphone and a wallet which contained USD54.

The matter was reported to the Police.

The complainant was later called by the Police and she identified the Muparura at a parade.

HHe was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for rape of which two 2 years were suspended. He was also sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for robbery. 1 year was suspended.

Muparura will thus serve 12 years in prison.
