The family of the former Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe says he will be buried at the National Heroes Acre after all.
But it is not as easy as it sounds.
First, on Sunday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa will hold what is essentially a mock funeral before his body is taken away.
Said family spokesperson Leo Mugabe:
The president will be buried at the National Heroes Acre. As to when, that is another question.
On Sunday, the body will be taken to the Heroes Acre. The normal function at Heroes Acre will take place, that is the 21-gun salute and the conferment of heroism on him by the government will take place at the shrine.
The body will then be taken away for burial later once the works that are supposed to be done at the Heroes Acre are done and finalised.
After Sunday the body goes to Zvimba for traditional rituals and stuff.
It’s a turnaround from a position that suggested Mugabe would not be interred at the national shrine.
Mugabe died on 6 September in Singapore where he was receiving treatment.
