Tapiwa Gambura’s Zupco conductor film makes it to Jozi Film Festival competition and you can vote for it

Tapiwa Gambura has created a short film about a Zupco driver called Redefining The Road which is now in the finals of the Discovery Real Time Competition at the Jozi Film Festival 2019.

The film tracks Memory Kadaira, a bus conductor who has redefined the journey as a conductor on the Zupco urban transport system. The blurb says:

In this travel documentary, Tapiwa Gambura explores the life of bus conductor Miriam Kadaira in an attempt to complicate the idea of what it means to travel. As a woman, the social perceptions around Miriam’s choice of work are staggering, yet she continues, choosing to travel every day because she loves it. The theme is one of finding joy and adventure wherever you are.

The deets on the competition are as follows:

A new competition in partnership with Discovery’s Real Time channel! An Africa-wide call for 3-5 minute films on the theme: “Real Stories Told By Real People About Real Lives”.

The winner will receive $2 500, second place $1 000 and third place, $750, and be broadcast on Real Time, alongside all the films shortlisted by a JFF and Discovery jury. The public will vote for the top three via our website and social media pages.
