The ongoing beef between South African rappers Cassper Nyovest and Aka escalated when the former failed to perform perform last night, 15th August 2014, on SABC 1’s Music show, Live Amp.
In a statement released today, apparently Cassper, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, was billed on the same show as AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes.
The reason:
The incident involved one of AKA’s entourage members’, known as Prince Nyembe, threatening Cassper Nyovest with a firearm and AKA assaulting Cassper’s Road Manager, Tshepo Seone better known as ‘Spike’.
Charges have now been laid against AKA and Nyembe.
Said Nyovest:
I feel this incident was unnecessary and was a sad day for the entertainment industry in South Africa. I chose not to retaliate as I have lived the life of gangster violence before and walked away from it to pursue my music career. As I am a public figure now what message would I be sending out to the people that support me. Therefore I will take the correct procedures to deal with the matter.
Sad to see hip hop getting this ugly though, if this is what actually happened. It’s just an unnecessary mess, taking us to the ugly side of the game that noone needs. It’s ignorant, and in reality we should be using the game to uplift people and not settle inflated egos.
Meanwhile this is what AKA said earlier on:
I'm going to issue a statement later on today … 140 characters are not enough.
