14 Year-Old Boy Poisons Father; Blames TV Soap ‘Generations’

A 14 year-old Bulawayo boy has poisoned his father and then put the blame squarely at the door of popular South African TV soap Generations.

The police have confirmed the incident without releasing further details. It is said the boy laced his father’s food with rat poison after he refused to let him go back to South Africa where he had just come from. This came after seeing Noluntu on the soap poison her mother Mawande.

After the father confronted his wife because the the funny taste in his food and the situation was getting edgy, the boy confessed. The father was rushed to Mpilo Hospital where he was treated.

The episode in which Mawande is poisoned was screened in March this year.

This raises serious questions about what young people are being exposed to on TV and what effect it has on them. Because there are so few real-world type of consequences on screen so children do not interpret some of these things very well.

The same thing can be said about the music we have on radio during the day. Can’t be good for kids.

Sure this was a bit extreme, but slowly, we are painting reality differently for them.
