Zifa announce 2022 World Cup qualifiers squad

The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has announced a provisional squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

All players picked are foreign-based as the local league has been inactive, due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown in the country.

Two players who have received surprising call-ups are Jimmy Dzingai and Ovidy Karuru, who are both currently without clubs.

There are question marks over the UK-based players, particularly Marvelous Nakamba, after the Premier League unilaterally decided it was not releasing players to red-list countries or the international window next month. Zimbabwe play Ethiopia and South Africa. All three are in the red list category. Ghana is the fourth team in the group.
