Taylor ton unable to prevent Zimbabwe from follow-on threat

Brendan Taylor scored his fifth century but Zimbabwe were bowled out for 304 by Bangladesh, still 18 short of avoiding the follow-on in the second test’s day 3 action at Dhaka.

Taylor who made 110 was part of a 139-run partnership with PJ Moor who scored a career high of 80 before going out trapped leg before by Ariful Haque.

Once that partnership was broken it was a procession and only 18 runs were added after. Only 10 batsmen were available to Zimbabwe as Tendai Chatara’s injury prevented him from playing any further part in the test match.

The only other standout performance was that of Brian Chari who got 53 before he was unlucky when the ball tickled his glove off Mehdy Hassan to Monimul Haque at short leg.

Taijul became the third Bangladeshi to take a five-for in three successive innings. He returned figures 5-107.

With a lead of 218 it remains to be seen whether Bangladesh will enforce the follow-on.

Play resumes at 5.30am Zimbabwe time. Coverage is on SuperSport.
