Tahir torments Zim again

Imran Tahir was twice on a hat trick ball as careless Zimbabwe batsmen floundered in a 34-run loss at Buffalo Park, East London.

South Africa won the toss and there were early breakthroughs for Kyle Jarvis and Chris Mpofu quickly getting rid of the openers.

Enter Faf Du Plessis who showed his skill toying particularly with Tendai Chisoro. He was caught however by Chisoro who was in unorthodox sweeping position off the bowling of Brandon Mavuta.

Debutant Rassie van der Dussen made 56 in a 87-run partnership with David Miller. The latter would go out off the impressive Jarvis for 39.

Jarvis also accounted for Carl Jonker returning figures of 3-37 in restricting SA to 160/6.

Chamu Chibhabha’s apparent inability to play spin was exposed again as he was out bowled by Tahir.

Tahir came back to grab the two wickets of Hamilton Masakadza and Tarisai Musakanda in successive balls.

Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams then combined for a 19 run partnership before Junior Dala got the former for 19.

Williams and Peter Moor were looking good before the former fell to Tahir the first of another pair that included Elton Chigumbura.

Then the glimmer of hope came as Moor with Brandon Mavuta went after the bowlers. Moor had an over in which he middled four sixes in a row.

Mavuta then carved one to third man for 28 and any hope of Zimbabwe pulling off a surprise win dissipated.

None of the other batsmen offered anything and Moor fell chipping one to Jonker. He was on 44 off 21 balls and Zimbabwe all out for 126.

The next match is on 12 October.
