South African student protests have resulted in the closure of three universities as unrest over fees gathered pace.
Already, Wits where it all started after students resisted a move by the university to increase fees for 2016 had closed on Monday after suspending the decision.
This was meant to afford the University Council to report to the assembly and after failing to appear following an ultimatum, students took to the streets in an attempt to break the M1 at the Braamfontein campus. Students overturned a car after they accused the student driving it of trying to run them over.
It's easy to look at this picture in isolation and lament about the violence but this car tried to run them over pic.twitter.com/KOsarDdYSa

Students at Rhodes and University of Cape Town forced closure as they joined the protests.
The protestors say the current status quo have resulted in exclusion for economic reasons in traditionally white institutions.
Proposed increases have been blamed on the falling rand, inflation, lower government subsidies, increasing overheads such as salary increments.
It’s a volatile situation.
