Harare’s Wilkins Hospital under lockdown over suspected coronavirus case

Harare’s Wilkins hospital was under lockdown on Wednesday over a suspected case of coronavirus.

Dr Portia Mananganzira  Director of Epidemiology & Disease Control at the Ministry of Health and Child Care confirmed the development saying samples had been taken from the woman and had gone for testing.

She added that the woman, who had been in Wuhan, had been given a certificate from Chinese authorities showing she tested negative of coronavirus. She left Wuhang before 20 January and went to Guangzhou. That is where she departed for Zimbabwe from. She returned to Zimbabwe a month ago yesterday. The precaution is being taken in case she had in incubation.

Dr Mananganzira said this was in spite of her not showing signs on the initial test of having the disease which is now known as Covid-19. These include flu-like symptoms. She is being monitored and is stable.
