Chiwoniso’s cousin TariMari drops debut album this week

For years we have watched TariMari, doing random performances on stage and always wondered why she never went mainstream and gave us her own recorded music.

She launches her debut album Kumusha this Thursday 4 August at Chez Zandi’s Alliance Francaise at 8pm.

Ba Shupi is featured on the title song, Kumusha. Jah Prazah, Alex Brown and Humfrey Domboka feature alongside on Our Children. Jah Prazah  plays the mbira. Ammara Brown lends her skills to Simuka.

Who is TariMari?

TariMari (real name Tariro Marivadze) is a fun loving, energetic young woman looking to break into the Zimbabwean music scene with her original Afro jazz style and exquisite bluesy voice. We have listened to two songs off the album. Trust us, she is life.

TariMari and the late legendary Chiwoniso Maraire’s mothers are sisters which makes them first cousins.

We asked her manager Alice Knuth and asked why the album was coming out now:

She has been working for the past couple of months of her album. It took a while to get all the elements of album to perfection.

The plan right now is to get the album on radio with no tour planned.
