Havocscope,  website that looks at the dark arts of humans has estimated that Zimbabwe’s black market could be worth a whooping $1bn.

It broke things down as follows in ranking Zimbabwe at number 49:

Black Market Crime in Zimbabwe

Cocaine Price :$80 per gram (Crack)
Ecstasy Price :$10 per pill
Heroin Price :$27.1 per gram
Marijuana Price :$1.0 per gram
Counterfeiting :$0.004 Billion ($4 Million)
Metals and Minerials Smuggling :$1 Billion
Software Piracy :$4 Million
Total Country Black Market Value :$1.004 Billion

Now it must be said the basis is this:

Data and information about security threats from Zimbabwe’s black market. Intelligence and security information collected from government agencies, news articles and other public data sources.

That means that the data is based on official sources which means the underbelly could explode that number big time.

Also when you include the trade in the currency black market, what would that do to that figure. What must also be added is that the figure doesn’t seem to be updated much to be honest.

And if you want to know the top 5, here it is:

  1. United States – $625.63 Billion
  2. China  – $261 Billion
  3. Mexico – $126.08 Billion
  4. Spain – $124.06
  5. Italy – $111.05 Billion

And the estimated value for all black market across the world is $1.8trillion.

Still feels extremely understated though…
