A Dark Cloud Hovers Over ZESA

There has been a lot of talk regarding the power cuts that Zimbabwe has experienced in the past few days. Some analysts are saying the load shedding is due to political shenanigans by some people within ZESA.

The Herald reports that many areas have not been under load shedding but coincidentally started to experience power cuts soon after the elections.

This has raised suspicion in some quarters regarding the real cause of the power cuts.As you may know the outgoing minister of Energy and Power Development is Mr Elton Mangoma from the MDC-T party.

ZESA claims that that over the past two weeks, it has lost four power generating units which reduced output from 700 megawatts to 200 megawatts. The power utility company also said the load shedding has been exacerbated by reduced power imports due to plant maintenance at Cahora Bassa in Mozambique.

In the midst of a he said, she said, contest, making sense of it all becomes a bit confusing. If however the reasons ZESA have proffered are valid, then what is clear as light is that ZESA are poor at communicating with their customer.

This is one of those times they really should have taken time to advise the public a little beforehand rather than after the fact.
