City of Harare moves to charging certain services in USD only

Cash-strapped City of Harare has said certain services will only be payable in United States Dollars with effect from 1 September 2022.

The announcement was made in a circular by the Acting Town Clerk’s office and dated 30 August 2022.

The City did not specify the services were in question but said ‘services accessible through the monthly bills i.e. water consumption, sewerage, refuse collection and rates’ wll remain open to being payable using the chosen option in the multi-currency regime.’

Harare says this is necessary to capacitate Council to continue sustaining service delivery.

The council says the charges are in the 2022 budget.

It’s going to be interesting to see what residents think of all of this.
