The protests are over the new import imposed by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority(Zimra) on goods from South Africa.

The protests are from both the Zimbabwe and South African sides. Zimbabweans say the new measures will cripple the border town which relies heavily on cross boarder trading while on the South African side, traders in Musina say they will  have huge losses of income.

The standoff has also seen all goods from Zimbabwe stopped from entering South Africa.

A statement released by the Secretary for Information and Publicity, Beitbridge Crossborder Transporters Association said that while police clearance for a demonstration had been refused, they would defy it adding that the ‘battle’ was likely to end on the SA side.

Wildcat strikes are already being reported in Musina according to sources who got in touch with 3-mob.com.
