Twitter testing a new feature to suggest who you should unfollow… lame

Twitter is trying to close a can of worms by opening a second one.

So it is testing a new feature that suggests people to unfollow  to make ‘Twitter great for you’. We promise you, that whole  make great statement does our head in.

It said as a message above the suggestion:

You don’t need to follow everyone to know what’s happening. Make sure you’re only following the people that make Twitter great for you

In speaking to The Verge Twitter confirmed the move:

We know that people want a relevant Twitter timeline. One way to do this is by unfollowing people they don’t engage with regularly. We ran an incredibly limited test to surface accounts that people were not engaging with to check if they’d like to unfollow them.

Alarm bells ringing if you ask us. Yes, Twitter says right now, it is about who you interact with, what happens when it starts suggesting people who have different political opinions or if there is some sort of social engineering.

While some other networks are trying to increase engagement, @Jack thinks it is a good idea to start disconnecting people?

What on earth are they smoking up there?
