The Elon-Musk Internet service has been instructed to shut down its customers in Zimbabwe.

In an email it sent to those affected, it said, “You are currently using Starlink in an unauthorised territory, As a result. Starlink has been directed by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to disable your service.”

Users have been accessing the service via roaming. That is either through Zambia or Mozambique, where the service is legal.

Starlink has not given up on the Zimbabwe market.

“We will continue to work with POTRAZ to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals to turn on Starlink services in Zimbabwe as soon as possible,” it said in the same email.

The Zimbabwe government has said it has no objections to Starlink entering the market, as long as it follows local laws.A

And Starlink says it needs your help.

“We encourage you to contact POTRAZ at [email protected] or +263 242 333032 to communicate your support for Starlink to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals in Zimbabwe.”
