New Econet tariffs a kick in the gut with 225% increase on some bundles [list inside]

Corporate behemoth Econet Wireless has just announced it’s new tariffs.

The big scream for many is the 225% on the Private Wi-Fi bundle which gets you 25gb. It will now cost $1,300 while the 50gb will go for $2,000.

The daily bundles sit as follows

1.$5.5 20MB Daily Data

2.$11.0 40MB Daily Data

3.$20.0 80MB Daily Data

4.$37.0 150MB Daily Data

5.$60.0 250MB Daily Data

6.$80.0 600MB Daily Data

7.$130.0 1200MB Daily Data

Then for the weekly data it is

Select Option:

1.$5.5 25MB Weekly Data

2.$15.0 60MB Weekly Data

3.$33.0 160MB Weekly Data

4.$55.0 250MB Weekly Data

5.$70.0 370MB Weekly Data

6 $152.0 for 700MB Weekly Data

For the monthly data it ranges from $28 for 100MB to $500 for 2.5gb.

WhatsApp daily bundles are $3.50 for 12MB, $5.50 for 20MB and $11 and 45MB

For SMS there is a daily bundle for $3.50 which gives you 35. After that it is weekly ranging from $5 for 75 to $20 for 300.

The kick in the guys is real and and as most of the country is trying to recover from the devastating effects of then lockdown forced by the pandemic, their incomes having been decimated, they will find no comfort from Econet, which is the biggest operator. As patterns have shown, the other operators will probably follow suit in the next few days meaning that Zimbabwe will generally go offline while the rest of the world is making the Internet more accessible as more services have to follow that route.

That means the online entertainment industry which was beginning to take root again will take another sorry nap, zoom meetings will be for the well-heeled and the masses will walk around like ,zombies.

Meanwhile, the regulator is twiddling its thumbs.

Because gang, 225%…
