The Zimbabwe government will finally start coming down hard on doctors who do not take their job seriously.
Previously it has been lenient with medical practitioners who misbehaved. The argument before had been that it made sense given the fact that the sector was under-serviced. That of course meant they were dicing with the lives of the general public.
Also doctors with psychiatric conditions will now be dropped if they do not handle their condition. Before they would simply be allowed to take medication and work under supervision. Yes, we were at risk of being treated by unstable people.
Then as for those doctors who do not attend to emergencies while on call, the government will be having none of that. They will be dropped too.
There will be a three-warnings system depending on the gravity of the offense. This will be administered by the Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.
