Facebook has been coming up under fire over privacy issues over the last couple of days.
If you have been following the wires then you will be up to your eyeballs in the Cambridge Analytica story and how the social media company allowed 50 million people’s data to be accessed for use in political campaigns.
Now the news came from users getting rid of their accounts that Facebook had been logging all their calls and texts on Android.
One user Matt Johnson said he found out a year’s worth of data had been surrendered to the social media behemoth.
Oh wow my deleted Facebook Zip file contains info on every single phone cellphone call and text I made for about a year- cool totally not creepy.

Now before you start thinking of how evil Facebook may or may not be, this is not really their fault. There is a feature called Sync Contacts. While it seemed convenient at some point, well it means surrendering all your call and text data. So by agreeing to use this fixture you allow them to access data. They even give you a warning when you agree.
So because it is on Android, Google may have to take some blame for this. Apple does not allow third party applications to collect this data.
Now agreeing has wider implications because this kind of data which before needed dudes in dark glasses staking out a house and rummaging through dustbins to get access to is now available at a click or two because you give them up. Known as Metadata, some experts call it the crown jewel because it not only discovers individual bits of data but the relationship between them all. That means it can be used for all sorts of great as well nefarious activity not just limited to manipulating moods and getting people to do what you wish.
But do not fret. Facebook tells you how to remove the feature here.
