5G is now in Zimbabwe folks.

The country’s leading mobile network Econet has launched its first 5G base station in Harare.

The first location is in Avondale and will see speeds of up to 1.6Gbps. Yes. That.

There will be a second in Newlands soon and 20 more by June 2022.

Postal & Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe  Director General Dr Gift Machengete was present to open the base station.

5G will revolutionise the way we live, affecting industries, retail and manufacturing among others. It will enable much faster and safer communication. It will enable businesses we cannot even imagine and allow such innovations such as the metaverse to bear fruit.

Currently, about 80% of %g installations are in China.
