ANC Has Website Hacked For Supporting Mugabe

The official website of South Africa’s African National Congress has been hacked.

The same group that took down The Herald and IOL News websites has claimed responsibility. Via their twitter account (@zim4thewin) the group calling itself Anonymous Africa says it is doing so because of the ANC’s support for Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe and ‘for being corrupt’.

The ANC has called this a deliberate act of sabotage.

The same distributed denial of service (DDOS) was used.

While some will look at this and call it cyber activism the other end of it will mean that laws and the works will be put into place which will affect the common man on the street. This gives birth to situations where people will lose their civil liberties such as the case with the PRISM situation in the United States.

Mind you, it shows us how much we don’t take security online seriously in Africa.

Whatever happens, it is the small guy who will lose out.
