Zimbabwe Women survived a shocking middle-order collapse to beat Thailand Women by one wicket in a T20I thriller at Takashinga Sports Club.
Chasing a modest 105, Zimbabwe looked to be cruising 72 for the loss of two wickets after 12.5 overs, they suddenly found themselves at 80 for the loss of 8 runs after 16.1 overs.
Chiedza Dhururu with 15 and Nomvelo Sibanda with an unbeaten 11 then held their nerves to win the match with three balls to spare.
Earlier, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano made 30 and Modester Mupachikwa 29 and it was after the fall of the latter’s wicket that the collapse started.
Nattaya Boochatham and Onnicha Kamchomphu were both three for 18, while Suleeporn Laomi two for 22.
Earlier, Nannapat Koncharoenkai scored an unbeaten 62 off 53 balls in an unbroken 75-run partnership, as Thailand made 104 for the loss four wickets off their 20 overs.
Christabel Chatonzwa took a brace for her two for 18.
The second match of the series is on Saturday at the same venue.
