Zimbabwe women make it two wins in two in #VictoriaTriSeries

A spell of brilliant bowling handed Zimbabwe women a 15-run win against hosts Uganda in the Victoria Tri Series on Sunday.

Tasmeen Granger and Precious Marange broke the steely will of Uganda who had a controlled chase after losing wickets early on, the first to Nomvelo Sibanda in the first over who removed captain Kevin Awino. Granger got the second one and suddenly Uganda were 1-2.

A 41-run partnership between Naomi Kayondo and Damalie Busingye made it look like their chase was on course before Uganda lost three wickets for six. All the while the run rate was creeping up. Marange terrified the hosts with her four overs running on an economy of 1.25.

In the end Uganda were able to amass 90-8 chasing 116.

Sibanda returned figures of 3-14, Granger 2-11 and Marange 2-5. Kayondo top-scored with 26 while whle Rachael Ntono made 22.

Earlier Zimbabwe’s 115-6 came off the back of Anesu Ndiraya’s 26, Modester Mupachikwa’s 22 while Anesu Mushangwe made 15 and Marange 18.

For Zimbabwe they will find comfort from the fact that while captain Mary-Anne Musonda (7) and Chipo Tiripano (0) failed to fire in the first two matches in the series, other departments in particular the bowling have put their hands up.

It’s rest day and matches are back on in the week with Zimbabwe set for a double header in one day.
