Zimbabwe win super over to salvage Netherlands series

Brendan Taylor and Tendai Chatara were instrumental in getting a super over win as Zimbabwe beat Netherlands on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe scored 18-0 while the hosts made 9-1 in Chatara holding his nerve in the eliminator to hand a first win for the tourists on tour.

But it was all drama in the final over with Zimbabwe needing 13 off the last over. Elton Chigumbura in the first match on tour hit two sixes but Roelef van der Merwe took a pair and was involved in a run-out in the last three balls of the Zimbabwe innings resulting in the two sides ending tied on 152 runs.

Earlier, the Netherlands had won the toss and elected to bat first and while wickets fell often it was Max O’dowd’s half century that stood resolute for a 152-8 score from their 20 overs.

Brendan Taylor opened the batting with captain Hamilton Masakadza and fired his way to an aggressive 40.

The series ends 1-1 and Zimbabwe head to Ireland for a series over there.
