Ireland beat Zimbabwe by 56 runs

Zimbabwe Women are on the brink of a quick exit from the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2024 after they were beaten by 56 runs at the hands of Ireland Women in a Group B match.

Having won only one out of the first two, they need a massive one in the final match on Thursday, along with a couple of other results going their way to qualify for the semi-finals.

Amy Hunter picked up from where she left when last the sides met in January, scoring 71 in a 130-run opening partnership with Gaby Lewis, who made 69.

They smacked all the Zimbabwe’s bowlers, scoring 59 in the Powerplay alone. By the time Josephine Nkomo dismissed Hunter, the damage was excessive.

Lewis followed soon after, but the Irish’s total of 176 for three.

Zimbabwe’s response never really got going, captain Mary-Anne Musonda and Modest Mupachikwa scored 48 and 27 respectively.

The team never got anywhere close the rate at the start, just under nine, and buckled to 120 for the loss of eight in the end.
