Zimbabwe pick point off Congo

Zimbabwe picked a point off Congo with a 1-1 draw in an Africa Cup of Nations tie in Brazzaville.

Khama Billiat

Congo started off the first half with loads of energy and put Zimbabwe on alert early on.

The hosts were however stunned in the 22nd minute when Evans Rusike found Knowledge Musona on the right. His square ball found an unmarked Khama Billiat for his ninth goal for Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe could have added to their advantage but Musona’s effort found Congo keeper  Chancel Massa and the rebounded effort went wide.

For the rest of the second half the hosts were uninspired but in the second half came reborn.

The aptly named Theivy Bifouma took advantage of a slide rule pass which left the Warriors defence static. His first time goal into the bottom left corner left George Chigova with no chance.

Zimbabwe’s powers rarely showed in the second, but for a shot from Musona straight at Massa, the rebound evading an onrushing Rusike.

A draw it was at the end although a point away from home in Africa is a massive, against what looked like an average Congo side, Zimbabwe will feel they missed a chance here. And it was no thanks to the largely negative tactics employed by coach Sunday Chidzambwa.
