Zimbabwe cricket legend Heath Streak dies, family confirms

Zimbabwe cricketing legend Heath Streak has died.

He succumbed to colon cancer at the age of 49 in the early hours of Sunday.

Streak’s death was announced by his wife, Nadine, in a Facebook post.

”In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones,” his wife wrote.

“He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again.”

Streak is a record wicket-taker for Zimbabwe. He grabbed 216 Test wickets at an average of 28.14 and in ODIs, he 239 wickets at 29.82.

He was more than handy with the bat, scoring1990 Test run at 22.35 and 2 943 ODI runs at 28.29.

Streak went on to coach the national team.

At the time of his death, he was serving an eight-year suspension after being found guilty of corruption.
