Zimbabwe Cricket kicks off three-day Under-19 trials this Sunday

Zimbabwe Cricket will hold trials for three days starting Sunday 20 December 2020 as preparations for the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup get under way.

Prospective players from within and outside Zimbabwe (some reportedly from as a far as England) will play in a mini tournament with scouts keen to find the next generation of talent for the national team.

Zimbabwe under-19 coach Prosper Utseya will be keeping a keen eye on the talent to make sure he gets the choicest cuts in a quest to build a side that will compete well come 2022.

Zimbabwe along with  Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies have been confirmed as having qualified directly for the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

This is by virtue of their top 11 finish in the 2020 edition. The remaining five spots will be determined by regional qualification. Qualification for the 2022 edition of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup was delayed  by a year due to COVID-19.

The Under-19 setup has been the backbone of future players, producing the likes of Brendan Taylor, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Utseya, Tinashe Panyangara, Elton Chigumbura, Sean Williams and most recently Wessly Madhevere and Milton Shumba.
