Zimbabwe Break Seychelles Resistance To Get On The Brink…

Zimbabwe beat the dogged resistance of the Seychelles in the second match of Group A of the COSAFA Cup in Moruleng.

The Islanders had resisted for long periods in the first half parking the proverbial bus. It was just any bus. It was one of those buses in the boneyard, the sort that have not moved since you paid 8 cents for a ride to go to school.

Talent Chawapiwa hit the post 26th minute with a rasping shot with veteran goalie Jose Euphrasie getting the slightest of touches.

Zimbabwe got desperate and times and rushed their shots frustrated by some of the fortuitous defending displayed by the Seychelles.

It took a  sweetly struck half-volley from Harare City’s Talent Chawapiwa in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock. It was  a lovely shot from outside the box which beat the keeper on the near post.

The team settled down a lot more after that but Seychelles did not change their tactics much so the match ended 1-0.

Man of the Match Rafael Manuvire said coach Saul Chaminuka told his charges to be patient and it was team effort that got the goal.

Said Chaminuka:

I think a it was a good result. The Seychelles coach taught me. I told my boys we would play one hell of an organised team. We breached them here and there and sometimes we hurried and failed to convert. We wanted to knock the ball round and have players ready to take the shot.

After we scored all we needed to keep the ball to keep what we had.

They never really threatened us because we had George Chigova and Partson Jaure marshalling the defence.

Zimbabwe just need one point to  qualify for the quarter finals where holders Zambia await the winner of Group A.

Onward and forward Zimbabwe.
