Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat on a flat pitch.

Zimbabwe named an unchanged side while Afghanistan made five changes which included the introduction of champion bowler Rashid Khan who was out of the first match due to injury.

When Victor Nyauchi got the first wicket of Javed Ahmadi for four, the score on six, it looked like it would be another rich day for the seamers who had been devastating the first test.

Ibrahim Zadran was joined by Rahmat Shah and the pair were solid for their partnership of exactly before the latter was run out attempting a third run. He hesitated a called from Zadran from the non-striker’s end. Tarisai Musakanda threw a looping ball from boundary and it reached Regis Chakabva just in time for him to dislodge bails.

Shah was gone for 23 and the score 56 for the lost of two wickets.

The next partnership was strong for its 65. Zadran was removed by a beauty from Ryan Burl, the ball turning and kissing the edge for Sikandar Raza to collect at first slip.

Raza himself, soon after thought he had the wicket of Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan caught and bowled but replays showed he had not collected the catch cleanly.

After that, there was little luck for the bowlers. It was not that Zimbabwe bowled badly but that whatever happened positively for the batsman was just what it was.

Asghar and his partner Hashmatullah Shahidi put on a partnership 186 runs. The skipper got to his century, ending the day on 106 while Shahidi was on 86.

For Zimbabwe, a lot rests on the early morning mist as the week is expected to see the weather hotter and hotter.

The match’s second day is on Thursday, with first ball down at 7.30am (CAT).
