Zimbabwe and Bangladesh drop second test from series

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have opted to drop a second test from the itinerary for the all-format series next month.

They will now play one test, three ODIs and as many T20Is. There were originally supposed to be two T20Is only.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations chairman, Akram Khan was quoted as saying, “There were also two Tests against Zimbabwe, so we reduced it and added a T20I in its place.”

The ODI matches will be of particular interest for Zimbabwe as it is a path for them to qualify directly for the World Cup in 2023. Bangladesh sit on top of the Super League after clinching their series against Sri Lanka recently.

The venue for the Zimbabwe matches is yet to be officially confirmed, although it would make little sense to deviate from Harare Sports Club specifically for the limited overs series, with their huge implications. Given such a scenario, it would seem to be a stretch, we think to have a bubble elsewhere for the one test, given the turnaround time for matches and all.

But we could be wrong.
