Zimbabwe A 78 in 20 overs (Loryn Phiri 27, Chiyedza Dhururu 22,; Janet Mbabazi 5/10, Consy Aweko 2/17)

Zimbabwe Women A fell painfully short of their chase as Uganda Women won the 2024 Kwibuka Women’s T20 title on Saturday by two runs.

With nine teenagers in their team, the Zimbabweans fought right until the last ball but did not get over the line.

They bowled well to restrict the more experienced Ugandans to just 80 for the loss off eight in their 20 overs.

Christina Mutasa and Kudzai Chigora were particularly impressive.

But the lower order could not handle Uganda captain Janet Mbabazi’s effort after captain Chiyedza Dhururu departed for 22. Dhururu and Loyrn Phiri looked on course to cobble together another rescue effort after their heroics of on Friday.

But Mbabazi grabbed five for 10 to lead her side to glory.

For Zimbabwe, they will be proud of their nine teenagers in the side, seven of whom will be at the Under-19 world cup next year.
