Zim Domestic T20 Day 3: Eagles deny Tuskers, Rhinos stumped

A full round of action on day 3 of the Zimbabwe domestic T20 competition at Old Hararians on Wednesday.

In the first match the Eagles held off a determined Tuskers to win by 15 runs.

Eagles made 197/4, the highlight being a 62 off 38 balls from debutant Brian Mudzinganyama. He opened the batting with Tinashe Kamunhukamwe who was 14 off 20 balls before being bowled out by Ainsley Ndlovu.

Cephas Zhuwa at number 3 got 36 off 17. The next notable batsman was Richmond Mutumbami with 37 although it was his 67-run partnership with Elton Chigumbura which set up the big score.

A 112-run second partnership between the red hot Craig Ervine (83*) and Brian Chari (58) threatened to chase the score down but there just was too much to do at the end and the Tuskers could only amass 182/2.

In the second match, Rhinos looked to make it three out of three against a Mountaineers team that has shown promise but simply not delivered.

For the Rhinos batting first, the batters contributed, Solomon Mire with 55, Peter Moor with 38 and Ryan Burl with 36.

They picked up 182/5.

But it was some blistering hitting from Shingi Masakadza in the middle overs which turned the tide of the tie with 48 off 25. At the end when Kevin Kasuza came in, his 26 off 13 had been set up to push the win, reaching 184/5 with an over to spare.

The tournament moves to Harare Sports Club on Wednesday and runs until Sunday when the final is on.
