Dutchman Pieter De Jongh has been unveiled as the new coach of Zimbabwe champions FC Platinum.
It was the worst-kept secret in the halls of local football after he turned down a contract renewal with Highlanders, a team he took over and turned the fortunes of in a short period of time last season.
Goalkeeping coach Tembo Chuma also joins Pure Platinum Play who had been under the charge of Lizwe Sweswe following the sudden departure of Norman Mapeza to South African side Chippa United.
Chuma was with de Jongh at Highlanders. Sweswe reverts to assistant coach.
It will be clear that FC Platinum are hoping to not only win the league for the fourth straight time but do a little better in the CAF Champions League, where they have failed to register a point this season after three matches. de Jongh’s mandate might be a focus on the next edition which kicks off later in the year for which the Zimbabwe champions qualify for the knockout stage.
