Zimbabwe are close to their massive dream of qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The Chevrons are through to the Super Six of the Qualifier, with matches against Sri Lanka, Oman and Scotland.

As it stands, they are on four points, along with Sri Lanka. These are carried from the group stage. Netherlands have two points, as do Scotland. The West Indies and Oman enter this stage without any.

The top two sides of the Super Six stage will get their passports stamped for India this October.

So what do Zimbabwe need to do?

  • Win all their matches. That means they will end up on 10 points and win the group outiright.
  • Win two matches and they will get to an unassailable eight points. Only Sri Lanka can get away with two wins to qualify The oil in the ointment is if the Netherlands win all three of their matches, they will get to eight points too. Then Net Run Rate (NRR) becomes a factor. As it stands Sri Lanka have a comfortable 2.698. Zimbabwe are the only other team with a positive NRR of 0.982.
  • If they win one match, it gets dicey. That is because they will need
    • If the West Indies or Scotland win all their matches then it comes down to net run rate
    • Sri Lanka to lose all their matches and still come down to net run rate
    • If there are more teams who are equal even on NRR then head to head will be considered

All matches for Zimbabwe are in Bulawayo at Queen’s Sports Club. That is until the final in Harare on the 9th of July, should they make it.
