The Sport and Recreation Commission has indicated that the door is not closed on its communication with the football world governing body Fifa.
In a letter, the country’s apex sports body said, “The SRC continues to engage Fifa positively in updating them of the developments in football administration in Zimbabwe.”
The statement is pretty curious as a letter purported to be from Fifa, instructing the SRC to reinstate the beleaguered and suspended Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) board seemed to indicate that the two sides were not talking.
A cloud hangs over the local game after the deadline of 3 January 2022 passed without the reinstatement of the board. What many expect is the suspension of Zimbabwe although when that would take place is not clear.
The Zifa board released a letter on Wednesday littered with accusations and incendiary language against the SRC.
Since the suspension, the game has been run by the Zifa Secretariat.
