Violence Breaks Out Again After Highlanders Lose To ZPC

Highlanders fans again resorted to violence after their team lost 3-1 to title rivals ZPC Kariba at Hartsfield Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police had to use fake teargas to disperse crowds after missiles started raining from the terraces as Kevin Kaindu’s side slipped further away from their title aspirations.

Chronicle editor Mduduzi Mathuthu tweeted:

We saw those scenes a couple of weeks ago when bitter rivals Dynamos beat Bosso at Barbourfields Stadium.

Surely it is time football authorities did something about this. Highlanders fans behave this way all too often and because there has been no real consequence for their actions they will do it again. Playing a few matches in an empty stadium will seem harsh for a club struggling financially but something has to be done. Do we even identify the hooligans and have them barred from attending matches? Is there even a statute we have locally that makes it possibility?

A few weeks ago, a Cameroonian player Albert Ebosse died in Algeria after being struck by a missile from the crowd in a home game. Do we have to get to that level before something is done?

And for the idiots throwing missiles because you are upset by your teams loss, you’re embarrassing all of us. Stop acting like a creature that just left the jungle. Pillocks! If you actually care about Highlanders , you’ll know that acting that way is only hurting it.
