THREE things Zimbabwe have to do to win the second test against Sri Lanka

Zimbabwe take on Sri Lanka in the second and final match of a two -test series at Harare Sports Club starting Monday.

Zimbabwe came agonisingly close to at least salvage a draw against the islanders when they lost by 10 wickets just half an hour short of the end of play on the final day.

Zimbabwe coach Lalchand Rajput and captain Sean Williams will know that they let one drop there but there were a lot of positives from the first match.

But what we will look at now, are the three things the Zimbabwe side will need to do get a win:

  1. Forget the first test result: Having come so close to an important result in the first match, Zimbabwe will need to get that out of their mind and focus on the second match. It means starting this match on a clean slate and doing the important things they did to get the first test that far.
  2. Senior players need to show up: Zimbabwe’s senior players really let the team down in the batting department. Bar Craig Ervine with his first innings 85, none of them registered a half-century which is disappointing. What made it worse were the shots they fell to, Sikandar Raza stumped twice off the same bowler for example. More application and game awareness is necessary.
  3. Someone needs to put a big score: Hundreds for Zimbabwe are like hen’s teeth. Players did get a start in but noone wanted to take on the role Angelo Matthews took on for Sri Lanka in getting the big 200 to do the hard work. Someone will have to take full responsibility and score a big 100. That is what this level of cricket demands.

The toss is at 9.30am with the match to begin at 10am local time.
