“They’re very good in the air with good reach” – Aussie captain on Gems performance

Australian captain Caitlin Bassett was complimentary of Zimbabwe after her world champions the Vitality Netball World Cup debutants 73-37 on Saturday.

Speaking to the media after the match, Basset said the match was great practice for her side.

On the challenge so early in the competition

Was a good physical struggle out there which is gonna prepare us well for later rounds and obviously their crowd is very vocal and behind them which is great practice as well.

On adapting to playing African teams like Zimbabwe

Never matched up against any of them before and I think you could tell it was a bit scratchy at times. Hard to tell where to place the ball because they were very good in the air and had very good reach so we got there in the end. I was really happy with the defence in the last quarter. I think we tied up a lot.

Furthermore, her coach, Lisa Alexander said Australia expected a tough match after Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by 30 points in the opening game.
