Thailand Women hold off Zimbabwe Women in low-scoring closely-contested affair

Zimbabwe Women suffered a dramatic batting collapse which led to them losing to Thailand Women by five wickets in the second T20I on Thursday.

The match was moved to Thursday after rains had wiped out the original date, Wednesday, set for the fixture.

Having elected to bat first, Zimbabwe lost Kelis Ndhlovu for a duck.

Sharne Mayers and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano then carried Zimbabwe to 64 before the latter departed for 37.

Given the performances in the first match, one would have thought Zimbabwe would push this one one, but they simply failing to judge the bounce of the ball with spin.

When Mayers departed for 29, no other batter got to double figures.

With reference to the before-mentioned poor judgement in mind, it was startling that six wickets fell to either leg before or bowled.

Nattaya Boochatham was the pick of the bowlers with three for seven from her full quota of overs. Thipatcha Putthawong was two for 28.

Thailand lost Natthakan Chantham for one, and it looked like it would be a fine mess.

Wicketkeeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai carried the bat with 39, ably assisted by captain Naruemol Chaiwai with 29 and Nattaya Boochatham’s 18.

It got dicey for Thailand towards the end as they lost wickets three wickets in nine balls.

But Zimbabwe could not close the match out, taking the Thais to the final over and losing with only three balls left in the match.

Thailand made 106 for the loss of five wickets.

The series is now tied at 1-1, with two matches to go on Friday and Saturday.
