Raza shortlisted for 2022 ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year award

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza has capped a stellar year by making the final shortlist for 2022 ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year award.

This was revealed by the ICC on Thursday, adding to his also being on the ODI shortlist. He is the only player to be shortlisted for both.

Raza had a magnificent year with the bat and also contributed significantly with the ball in T20Is. A remarkable showing in the T20 World Cup in Australia capped off a memorable year for the 36-year-old.

With 735 runs in the year at a strike-rate of over 150, Raza scored more than 250 runs over the next best Zimbabwe batter in T20Is. He also led the wickets chart for them, taking 25 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 6.13.

This was all in 24 matches.

He is up against Indian sensational Suryakumar Yadav (1164 runs in 31 matches), England’s Sam Curran (67 runs and 25 wickets in 19 matches) and Pakistan star Mohammad Rizwan (996 runs, nine catches and three stumpings in 25 matches).

Voting

Voting in the ICC Awards 2022 will then commence in early January 2023, where a wider selection of global media representatives, the ICC Voting Academy, will submit their selections alongside global cricket fans, who will once again be encouraged to vote at icc-cricket.com for their winners.

Results of the ICC Voting Academy selections and the fans’ vote will be combined to determine the winner in each of these nine categories.
