#PRO50: Tiripano, Kaia engineer Mountaineers victory over Eagles

Donald Tiripano and Roy Kaia grabbed four wickets each as Mountaineers beat Pro50 defending champions Eagles by 59 runs for the second time in two days in a rain-interrupted match at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.

At the toss, captains Richmond Mutumbami of Mountaineers and Eagles’s Chamu Chibhabha with match referee Emmanuel Dube before the Pro50 match at Harare Sports Club PIC: Zimbabwe Cricket

Moutaineers won the toss and elected to bat and their opening partnership of Kevin Kasuza and Joylord Gumbie put on a partnership of 68 before the former fell to Tapiwa Mafudza for 39. Gumbie would go to the same bowler next for a snail-paced 26.

Kaia led a rebuild together with captain Richmond Mutumbami before he was gone for 40. Mutumbami did not stick around for much longer before he had to depart for 31. Both were victims of Tino Mutombodzi.

Shingi Masakadza and Kudzai Sauramba built a partnership worth 58 but when they removed by Richard Ngarava for 34 and 20 it led to capitulation for the Mountaineers and when the rain came they had only one wicket in hand on 234. When play resumed, it was a 49 over game and they were bowled two balls short of their allotment for 234.

Ngarava was 3-52, Mufudza 2-34, Mutombodzi, 2-53 and Trevor Garwe 2-32.

Eagles started aggressively but captain Chamu Chibhabha was out for 9, the first of Tiripano’s quick early wickets. Kudzai Maunze, 8 and Regis Chakabva,0 were his next victims.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe rushed to his fifth List A half-century with Elton Chigumbura on the other end. Kamunhukamwe became tentative after the milestone before Kaia got his wicket for 68.

Chigumbura was next out, again to Kaia before wickets fell for cheap.

With three in hand, Mutombodzi was forced to retire hurt and with the rate required close above 7 at the time it was always going to be too much.

Eagles would be bowled out for 175 after 43.4 overs.

Tiripano’s figures were 4-29 off 6.4 overs while Kaia was 4-30 off 10.
