Pro50: Mountaineers shoot down Eagles, Tuskers dim Stars

The Manicaland Mountaineers showed intent in their chase for a domestic cup double with an emphatic eight wicket victory over Harare Metropolitan Eagles at Old Hararians in Pro50 Championship action.

Zimbabwe under-19 captain Liam Roache was the only one with a level head as he scored 44 not out as the Eagles were dismissed for 116 in 36.3 overs.

Victor Nyauchi claimed 3-39, Wellington Masakadza 2-12, Tendai Chatara 2-28 and Donald Tiripano 2-16.

Hamilton Masakadza scored 53 not out in the chase while Kevin Kasuza made 29 not out. Captain Tino Mawoyo fell for 22 as Moutaineers reached 117/2 in 25.2 overs.

Across town, Chevrons batsman Craig Ervine hit a run-a-ball 63 to guide the Bulawayo Metropolitan Tuskers to a six wicket victory over Rising Stars at Harare Sports Club.

Brian Chari top-scored for Tuskers with a 79 to get the attention of selectors for the coming series.

Ernest Masuku had earlier taken 4-49 in bowling Rising Stars out for 214 in 40.2 overs.

Tinashe Kamunhukamwe top scored with 47 and Ryan Burl, 42 in the Stars effort.

Tuskers chased the score down after 45.5 overs.

In the Tuskers match there was a debut for H Metro writer Percival Sizara who stood as umpire for the first time ever in List A match.

Action resumes on Thursday with Tuskers taking on Eagles at Harare Sports Club and Rising Stars dueling with the Midlands Rhinos at Old Hararians.
