Former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura’s 76 and Tony Munyonga’s 53 helped the Eagles to a five wicket victory over Rhinos at Harare Sports Club in Wednesday’s Po50 Championship match.
The Rhinos came into the match on the back of a win over Mountaineers and were put in to bat.
Tarisai Musakanda was was out three balls in with the score on 1 for a duck. Richard Ngarava dismissed him.
The next significant scorer to come in was another former national skipper Brendan Taylor back from his T10 adventure. Meanwhile Bothwell Chapungu curated his way to a 54 before he was removed, the first of Chamu Chibhabha’s three victims.
Taylor fell short of his half century by the smallest of margins caught and bowled by Munyonga for 49.
Malcolm Waller was good for his 44 before Keith Jaure removed.
Graeme Cremer(32) and Michael Chinouya (15) provided late resistance but Rhinos were all out for 232 in 45.4 overs.
Chibhabha returned 3-40, Jaure 2-33 and Munyonga 2-52.
The Eagles were out of sorts losing wickets with regularity as Cremer and Chinouya went through top order.
Chigumbura and Chinouya then out together a 138-run partnership to steer Eagles to a five wicket victory with four overs to spare.
Cremer and Chinouya had identical returns of 2-46.
The match between Tuskers and Mountaineers was not played and a date for it is still to be announced.
