PENALTY HEARTBREAK: Zambia knock Zimbabwe out of Cosafa Cup

Zambia beat holders Zimbabwe 4-2 on penalties in the semi-final of the Cosafa Cup on Wednesday after finishing 0-0 in ordinary time.

Zimbabwe started the stronger and created moments earlier but Zambia grew into the game forcing Telkom Knock Out goalkeeper of the tournament into great saves.

And one of those came in the 42nd minute when what seemed a soft penalty was given to Zambia. Austin Muwowo stepped up, Chipezeze denied him.

In the second half the two sides kept going at each other, the keepers being called on to make more saves.

Zimbabwe lacklustre for periods until talisman Khama Billiat created chances, the best falling to Tino Kadewere only for him to blaze it wide.

It came down to penalties and Zimbabwe failed to score their first two and never recovered as Zambia converted all their ones. Player of the match Chipezeze was unable to repeat his regulation time heroics.

Zambia now play Botswana in the final while Zimbabwe play the third place play-offs against Lesotho.
