NPL T20 Blast 2021-22 Matchday 4 roundup: BAC shock Westside, Lions remain unbeaten

Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) provide the shock result of the penultimate round when they beat high-riding Westside Cricket Club by 54 runs in a National Premier League (NPL) T20 Blast match at Masvingo Sports Club.

Having chosen to field first, then unbeaten Westside limited BAC to 116 for nine from their 20 overs.

Nyasha Mayavo scored 55 and captain Nkosana Mpofy 29.

John Masara took four for 11, Tinashe Muchawaya two for 10 and Michael Maphosa two for 14.

In response, Westside were skittled out for 62 in 13.5 overs.

Only Clive Chitumba (23) and Muchawaya (10) got to double figures.

Thamsangwa took two for two, Mpofu returned two for four, Alleh Chigoma two for 10 and Flemming Nkomo two for 11.


At Old Hararians B Field, Lions held off Takashinga 2, beating them by two runs.

Batting first, Lions made 147 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs.

Aliakbar Hamid top-scored with 35, followed by Clive Madande’s 34 and Cephas Zhuwao with 27.

Tafadzwa Chiminya took three for 31 and Wishnenzy Chapfombo two for 24.

Takashinga chased and fell short, reaching 145 for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.

They were spearheaded by Tafadzwa Tsiga who made a brisk 52 off just 27 balls. Charles Kunje scored 30 and Tariro Mukauyo 23.

But in the end, Lions held on. Tashinga Musekiwa took three for 24. His contribution saw him take two wickets with the last two balls of the match, removing Tsiga and Chiminya to win a dramatic match.


Dion Myers picked himself a half-century but Takashinga 1 could not overhaul Gladiators Cricket Club as they lost by nine runs at Old Hararians Sports Club.

The Zimbabwe international scored an unbeaten 51 off 38 balls as Takashinga 1 could only reach 151 for the loss of four wickets. Gladiators had made 160 for five from their 20 overs.

For Takashinga 1, openers Takudzwanashe Kaitano and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe both made 35.

Tatenda Matimbe was the pick of the bowlers for Gladiators, taking two for 19.

Earlier Simbarashe Murumbi’s 46 of 38 and Ashley Mufadauya with a 31-ball 38 led the charge for Gladiators. There were also good contributions from Naison Mare and Owen Muzondo who made 23 each.

In the end, it was enough for the win and Lions now remain the only unbeaten side.

Cuthbert Musoko took two for 18 and Roy Kaia two for 23.
