Now Durham have also cut their pre-season tour of Zimbabwe over coronavirus fears

English county side Durham side has followed Derbyshire in announcing an abrupt end to their tour of Zimbabwe over coronavirus fears.

While the Southern African nation has no confirmed cases of the pandemic, the two sides were worried about the situation back home in the United Kingdom where sporting events have been cancelled as that nation battles the disease.

This also created uncertainty over travel should the situation escalate. On advice from their government and cricket governing body they have decided to head back home.

Zimbabwe Cricket Acting General Manager Givemore Makoni said while the situation was ‘regrettable’ it was ‘understandable’ and thanked both sides for committing to the tour.

Unlike Derbyshire, Durham had not played any cricket in Zimbabwe during the tour before it was called off.
