No luck for spirited Zimbabwe as West Indies openers reach tons

Zimbabwe continued to bowl and field wholeheartedly at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Sunday, but again no good fortune came their way as they could not break through the West Indies batting.

By the close, the tourists had passed 200 without losing a wicket, with both their openers, Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, reaching centuries.

After so much rain on Saturday, the outfield was so sodden no play was possible until after tea.

Overnight the West Indies were 112 for no wicket, with Brathwaite and Chanderpaul both on 55.

When they finally reached the crease they continued their solid game, rarely trying to increase their scoring, and the Zimbabwe bowlers were unable to break through.

Brathwaite scored the faster of the two, although Chanderpaul drove a ball from Wellington Masakadza straight for the only six of the match so far.

Brathwaite reached his 12th Test century off 226 deliveries and shortly afterwards the second new ball was taken.

Victor Nyauchi and Richard Ngarava were unable to break through, though, and just before the close Chanderpaul reached his first Test century, which took him 291 balls.

For the second day in succession no wicket fell, and the score at the close was 221 for no wicket, with Brathwaite on 116 and Chanderpaul 101.
