Najibullah flurry denies Zimbabwe

Najibullah Zadran cracked a late an unbeaten 44 off 25 balls as he helped Afghanistan to a six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first of three T20 internationals at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Zimbabwe, defending 160, had pulled themselves into the game.

Ryan Burl, the highest-ranked Zimbabwean in the latest ICC T20 all-rounder rankings , grabbed three wickets in the 11th over to turn 83 without the loss of wickets to 86 for the three.

Zimbabwe kept it tight until the end of the 16th over.

If you had bet your house on a regular, dependable over from Blessing Muzarabani, you would be homeless tonight.

Najibullah smashed him for a four and two sixes in consecutive balls. There was a no-ball in there too. Add a two wides, another four and singles and that over went for 26.

Afghanistan reached 160 for the loss of four wickets from 19.2 overs. Other contributions were from Hazratullah Zazai with 45 and Rahmanullah Gurbaz 33.

Burl took three for 14 from his four overs.

Earlier, debutant Nijat Masood took three four 49 as Zimbabwe were restricted to 159 for eight.

Batting from Zimbabwe was led by Sikandar Raza with 45, Wessly Madhevere 32 and Regis Chakabva 29.

The two sides meet again at the same venue on Sunday.
